Handmade Holidays

December is here and in Ontario so is the snow – have you started to think about the holidays yet? December is a big month in our house, we have 3 birthdays and Christmas all within 10 days of each other, so I have definitely started to think about the holidays. Now before I go any further you might be thinking “why is she talking about Christmas already? The thought of hitting the malls and spending all of that money is making me itchy!” Well, me too. This year as we did some renovations on our home and I spent a lot of time clearing out toy clutter (mostly unused toys I might add) we really started to re-think the way we view, and give, gifts, which is why I have declared this year largely a handmade holiday. Sure there will be a few commercially purchased gifts under our tree this year, but the majority of the gifts that we give this year will be handmade or “experience” based gifts. And I plan to share my ideas with you in the event that you are also looking to make this year a less commercial, less expensive and more thoughtful year.

I hope you will join me in December as I share some of our favourite handmade holiday gifts, and a few tutorials as well, – from food, to crafts (don’t worry there won’t be any acorn birdfeeders or tissue paper Santas here) to experiences. And of course it wouldn’t be Hands and Home if I didn’t share a few of my favourite holiday themed reads!

Happy December everyone!
